Summary

This project focused on team management and the design process before in-depth design. We were tasked with finding a location where wearing masks in public is difficult and where another solution to reduce the spread of Covid would be very beneficial. Through our research, we decided that a restaurant would be the best place, as wearing conventional masks while eating is impossible. We went through a process identifying the needs and requirements of the project and generated several concepts. Our leading concept is shown below and is a reverse fume hood where a fan blows air down through HEPA filters providing everyone at the table with fresh air.

Since this was my concept, I proved its feasibility by determining the target flow rate and what components would be able to achieve this design. The analysis is too complex to go over here, but the image below shows all the variables I considered. You can Refer to the report section below for a more thorough analysis.

Will the requirements for the system and analysis be complete? I CADed up a design that met the requirements for airflow and was made from bending a single sheet of steel. Below is the 3D model of our solution.
